Your email stays on your phone
Ply connects your iPhone directly to Gmail, Microsoft (Outlook, Hotmail, Microsoft 365) and iCloud Mail. Your messages, contacts and attachments go between your phone and your email provider. They are never sent to or stored on Ply's servers. Sign-in tokens and app passwords are kept in your iPhone's Keychain.
Read receipts
When you send an email with a read receipt, Ply adds a tiny invisible image to it. When the recipient's mail app loads that image, Ply's server records:
- a random ID for the email (not its subject, contents or recipients)
- when the email was sent and when the image was loaded
- the loading software's user agent and the network it came from (for example "Google LLC"), used to tell real reads from spam filters, security scanners and AI agents
- technical request headers, without cookies or the reader's IP address
Subjects and recipient names are stored only on your phone. You can turn read receipts off for any email before sending it.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Ply stores your device's push token so it can tell you when an email is read. The notification itself names no email; your phone fills in the details.
Google user data
Ply's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Gmail data is used only to show, send and organize your email in the app. It is not sold, not used for advertising, not read by people, and not used to train AI models.
What Ply never does
- Sell or share your data
- Show ads
- Read your email on a server
Deleting your data
Removing an account in Ply deletes its tokens from your phone. Deleting the app removes everything on the phone. Read-receipt records are tied to a random key that only your phone holds.
